There is much more to being a producer than just recording some cool sounds. A great producer is someone who has the ability to see an artists vision and help them achieve it. A producer's role includes everything from helping with songwriting and arranging to booking players and managing budgets, and everything in between. As a producer I am always focused on the end goal. I am always thinking forward and considering "what is it that will make this song come alive and be portrayed the way the artist hears it in their head". Music is all about translating an emotion and affecting the listener. I use my instincts and let the music play on my emotions a lot when producing. If the song doesn't move me, it's not there yet. I feel the same way about mixing. 

After years as a tracking engineer, I have really got a handle on what it takes to make a good record. I am really great at managing the process for an artist and keeping them on track and within budget. I also have extensive relationships with session players, arrangers, orchestras, rental companies, studios, and any other resource you may need when making a record. In addition, I think I've got a pretty damn good opinion about music, which is ultimately what you're hiring a producer for anyway - their opinion.

Another thing I have working to my advantage is my ability to produce vocalists. Although I am not a vocal coach, I am really good at assessing an artists strong points and qualities and bringing out the absolute best in them. The artists who work with me as a Producer will undoubtedly grow through the process. I will absolutely push the people I am working with to the very edge of their abilities and bring out the best performances they have ever given.
