How do I get my files to you?

It's simple. You can deliver files by sending me a hard drive or USB stick, or you can upload them and send them through a service like yousendit.com. Due to inherent ISP (internet service provider) bandwidth limitations for most users, I highly recommend sending a drive or USB stick for more than 3-4 songs. If you prepare the files correctly, you can probably fit an entire album's worth of material on a couple of USB sticks and you can send that via FedEx for just a few dollars. Please see the list of detailed instructions of how to submit your files here. To download a PDF with detailed instructions on how to prepare your files for delivery, please click here.

How can I be sure that my mixes will turn out the way I want them?

To start, I guarantee my work.  I welcome any input or instructions you may have prior to my starting your mixes, and then I offer 2 revisions to your mixes for no charge if I don't get it exactly right the first time.  Once I post the first mix of a song, you will have 3 days to download and listen to the song, and then get back to me with any necessary changes.  All of my equipment is completely recallable so I can pull your mixes back up and make even the smallest changes accurately.

In addition, I understand that I am not always the perfect guy to mix every song out there.  If you send me files and I feel that you will not be happy with what I am able to do with mixing them for any reason, I will send them back and refund your money immediately.  I pride myself heavily in a great reputation and happy clients.

I really like my rough mix, what if I don't like what you do?

If you have an existing mix that you like, please send it to me. Also tell me exactly what you would want to change about it. There is obviously something you are wishing could be better or you wouldn't be considering my services in the first place. I will listen to it carefully and I welcome all the input you may have. If I can't beat your rough mix, I will refund your money with no strings attached.

We started mixing with one guy but he is not available now. Can you match what he has done?

If you already have mixes you like on some songs and need the others to match, just send me the mixes you love along with the songs you need mixed. I will listen carefully to what has already been done and use them as a reference for completing the rest of the mixes. Mastering will also help balance out any subtle differences between two different mixing engineers work.

Do you do Mastering?

No.  Mastering is provided to users of this site simply as a convenience.  Mastering is outsourced to various top notch mastering engineers depending on the style of your music.

Professional Mixing is all about painting the best possible sonic picture with the instruments and arrangement that was recorded and intended by the Artist or Producer.  Mixing is the process where you focus on balance, depth, individual EQ, tasteful compression techniques, and effects.  Mixing is not the time to worry about the overall volume of the song for car, radio, iTunes, etc...  The mixes you receive from me will inherently and appropriately be a little bit quieter than the CD you just bought at Best Buy.  This is ok.  Just turn up the volume a little bit and enjoy.  You should be completely happy with the way everything sounds and feels even though mixes are a little quieter.  That being said, if you would like for me to provide you with a "LOUDER" version of your mix for you to use until the songs are properly mastered, just specify that in the instructions when you submit the files.

I highly recommend getting all of your songs professionally Mastered by individuals who focus specifically on that art form, and who have the tools, speakers, and mindset to do Mastering properly. I will be more than happy to provide references for some of the best Mastering engineers in the world.

Why aren't my songs as loud as the song I just bought on iTunes?

Please see the previous FAQ "Do you do Mastering?".

Do you take on every project that comes to you?

No.  I am a big believer in doing what you are best at.  If I feel for any reason that I am not the right guy for the job, I will let you know right away, and refund any money you have paid me.  I do not run a mixing factory, and any project I take on will be given the time, attention, care, and consideration it deserves.

Can you add instruments or sounds to the songs I send you?

Yes, absolutely.  I regularly work with some of the worlds best session musicians, and my business partner is a two-time Emmy winning multi-instrumentalist songwriter and arranger.  Together, we have the capability of doing any level of completely turnkey music production.  If this is something you are interested in, please contact me directly by phone or e-mail to discuss details and arrange a quote.
